Jo Phillips AKA ANODE is a music producer and live performer based out of the Salt Lake City Area. He explores the sonic space between the visceral hypnotic sides of experimental electronic dance music.
He has been releasing music and playing live since 2020. His first releases Ambient_001 is a contemplative ambient exploration of mood and texture. Following up that with a series of head nodding hypnotic liquid Drum n' Bass and progressive ambient singles: "FLEE","Cottonwoods" and "Nyquist Dreams". At the beginning of 2023 end of 2022 Anode dropped the EP "Was Here". Showing off his sonic range with Electro inspired tracks like the opener "Overspray" or the UK Garage flavored closer track "closeyes".
Drawing inspiration the landscapes and chaotic changing seasons of northern and southern Utah, The Ambient Sessions Vol 1 and 2 were released to streaming services in 2024 and 2025. During this time ANODE was spending time growing his family. His daughter was born in late 2023 and the joy and anxiety of that experience seeped its way into the sonic character of these releases.ANODE has a hybrid software hardware approach to producing music. He integrates Modular synthesizers, hardware samplers and drum machines with Software VST's and complex audio routing made possible by Digital Audio Workstations. With this, he is able to take an experimental approach to tried and true genres of electronic music.
In 2026, the Album "New Era" was released on Bandcamp in May of 2026. His most ambitious release to date. 12 tracks of texture forward electronic dance music that range in genre from breakbeat techno to Garage to Ambient.

His live performances he utilizes his hardware setups to recreate his music live rather then falling back on a DJ approach to the live setting. Improvisation is a key ingredient to his live performances. Anywhere from 70 to 100% of the performance is improvised live. This allows his performances to be as varied as the rooms and crowds he plays in. He's able to leverage his hardware to create the perfect vibe and energy for the event and for the people he shares the stage with.
